Why Vinland Saga?
A few years ago, I've been seeing Vinland Saga everywhere so I decided to watch it. During this time, I was
going through the loss of my father. At 19, it's a bit old to be acting out and being aggressive to
everyone, and blaming people who probably had nothing to do with my father's passing. But I related to
Thorfinn's anger.
When I saw season 2 (farm arc) it granted me a lot of closure. A few years later, I stopped
being angry. But the empty feeling over losing a parent never goes away. I like that the displays of God in
the anime was respectful, and influenced Thorfinn's arc. It's definitely not a Christian anime, but I would
pray after every episode. It's nice that something not so Christian can make someone want to be closer. I
feel like using this anime would fit my personal journey and the aesthetic of the site.
Young Canute is my favorite character. Canute was so meek, so I thought it was amazing he stayed Catholic
(?) for so long in the anime. In history, King Canute was a baptized Catholic, while his kingdom still
contained strong elements of Norse paganism. Also he's a saint, Canute IV of Denmark! He's related to a saint, the saint being his grandnephew. I'm going to be so
obnoxious about this.
